An experienced therapist in Quincy, IL
Creating positive change in someone’s life in a kind and meaningful way is at the heart of my practice. My approach as a therapist is warm, engaging and encouraging as I assist people to look at their situation, help them sort out their issues, and decide how best to address them. People who see me feel better….and that is immensely gratifying.
My specialties are relationship, abuse-survival and sexuality/lifestyle issues. For example: a married couple who want to improve their communication; a divorced couple who want to parent their children while minimizing the impact of their divorce on their kids; couples contemplating divorce; parents/couples divorcing and wanting to do so in a civil manner.
I also work with post-divorce issues, such as starting a new relationship and not wanting to “make the same mistakes”; addressing lingering anger/resentment with the “ex”; living with the new identity of being divorced or struggling with having been abused in the relationship.
Another area I specialize in is abuse recovery; working with individuals who have survived physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse. A few examples include the young woman who is bullied by her boyfriend, the wife beaten by her husband and yet afraid to leave him, the man who swore he’d not be like his abusive father but repeatedly looses control of his temper with his wife and kids.
Finally, a growing area in my practice is helping those who struggle with a variety of sexual issues such as compulsivity; sexual identity confusion; sexual avoidance within a marriage/relationship; communication about sexual needs in a relationship.
I also provide general mental health counseling services, such as working with depression, anxiety, grief parent/child and child behavior issues (ODD), Add/ADHD, childhood fears, etc.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois. I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Illinois State University, have been practicing for 28 years and have been in private practice for 10 years. My experience and training, combined with a sincere and respectful desire to help has made a healthy difference in the lives of the people with whom I have worked.
